Jack Thompson

Photographer & HISTORIAN

Jack Thompson began taking pictures of Myrtle Beach, SC in 1951 when he was 13. He is considered the keeper of the Grand Strand’s photographic history. Jack grew up in Greenville, SC and graduated with honors from Myrtle Beach High School in 1954. He founded the first magazine in Myrtle Beach, Insight Into the Grand Strand, followed by its first golf magazine. He has participated in numerous book projects, chaired local committees and been involved in the arts in Horry County for over 40 years. His most recent book, Memories of Myrtle Beach, provides a sampling of his photographic work through the years. More work may be found at his studio on 9th Avenue North in downtown Myrtle Beach, SC.

Jack Thompson’s work from the late 1960’s is featured in the opening exhibit at serenity on broadway art gallery & cultural center, “change on the horizon 1968.” This exhibit examines the social and cultural elements of 1968 with a specific focus on myrtle beach, sc culture in relation to the RACIAL issues of that time period. The opening reception with jack thompson is on Nov. 6, 2021 at 7pm. The exhibit runs November 6, 2021 — january 31, 2022.

Kurt Jarvis

Artist & Author: Watercolor, sculpture, illustration, poetry, children’s books

Kurt Jarvis is a former school social worker and children’s pastor. He works across several mediums – watercolor, illustration, PORCELAIN miniatures, woodcarving, writing, poetry – and has published and illustrated several children’s books. He and his wife, Judy, have served as missionaries to over 50 countries conducting ministry training programs and INVOLVING children in lessons of morality and creativity. Kurt’s work was featured in an exhibit at brookgreen gardens Summer of 2021. He is a galleried artist with Serenity on Broadway where his watercolor paintings and books are on display.

Edward McNamara

Pen and Ink Artist

Edward mcnamara picked up art in his later years. A former marine and a retired construction superintendent, ed turned to drawing after retirement. His exotic colored pen work is REMINISCENT of a PSYCHEDELIC journey – though ed was always a good guy and never took a trip! He is a galleried artist with serenity on broadway where his intricate artwork is on display.
